Strength Training Video Review

by DFR Staff Member Julie Chapman

There are four strength training programs included on this DVD

Gin explains in the DVD's pre-class guidelines how to increase or decrease the intensity of any of the programs making them all suitable for beginners through to advanced exercisers.

The four strength training programs each use a different piece of home gym equipment, so you can choose one program and do it several times a week, do all the programs in sequence or any combination. Whatever suits your strength training program best.

I found one of the greatest things about the strength training programs was that they included a warm up and a cool down as part of the program so you don't have to stop the DVD to go to separate chapters. This make the programs more like classes at a gym.

There is a wide variety of exercises in each of the programs, as Gin has designed them so that you get a head to toe strength training workout no matter which program on the DVD you do.

If you are just starting to do strength training my tip is that you should start with a low weight. Even when you think it is far to light, go with a 1kg dumbbell, or do the ankle and wrist weight program with just the ankle weights on the first time. I promise they will become heavier during the program, and 1kg will feel more like 3kg by the end!

And Finally…

I love this DVD (it’s my new favourite)! There is so much I can do, and I can change my intensity to keep it challenging, which means I can see myself still using it in a year or mores time.

But just in case you don’t believe me, here is a sample of some of the exercises included in the four strength training programs to whet your appetite:

Overhead presses, squats, hip hinges, flys, lunges, hammer curls, bicep curls, tricep extensions, leg raises, calf raises, lateral raises, push ups, arm rows… are you sweating yet?
